More protests hit university tobacco funding for CSR department

Nottingham University, the UK university which caused a flurry of anger from various quarters with its £3.8m sponsorship from British American Tobacco, is suffering further from the fall-out of that decision. The money was to pay for the establishment of a centre for Corporate Social Responsibility.

Mel Read MEP has become the latest of a ling line of academics, lecturers and advisors to have cut themselves free from the university in protest at the link with BAT. In March, the team of cancer research scientists at the university elected to move elsewhere. The editor of the British Medical Journal resigned his post at the university having consulted his readership as to what they thought he should do. Even the university's star business graduate turned down his Student of the Year award.
