About this site

This site is the personal site of Mallen Baker, a writer, commentator and strategic advisor on corporate social responsibility (CSR), and the chief executive of Business Respect.

It is an expression of my ongoing interest in the different aspects of CSR, particularly those aspects which are about successful business performance in the marketplace, and about the dilemmas that businesses face in the strategic choices they make.

Who is it aimed at?

Business executives with a commitment to making their business successful in a socially responsible manner, academics, students, activists attached to causes with a significant interest in business activity. The site addresses CSR as a global phenomenon and should have things of interest for audiences across the world.

Whilst welcoming students who are interested in CSR, please note that it is unlikely that I can enter into direct correspondence seeking guidance on the writing of specific theses or essays. If searching for info, why not try the CSR Swicki search I currently host.

What's the angle?

I am a strong supporter and advocate for business leadership in corporate social responsibility - tied to a robust business case. It is a pro-business pro-responsibility position. Alternative interpretations of CSR that may begin from a more anti-corporate agenda will not generally find this site of great comfort.

That said, I am always interested in the challenges, the contradictions and the grey areas. This site is interested in what's really happening in the world of CSR and in representing the trends and the issues with clear analysis, untainted by a specific agenda to prove something. There are strong views at times on the site, but no ideology that shapes the facts to fit the theory.
